Road workers are the unsung heroes of Tasmania who risk their lives in building the infrastructure on which we rely, so the Civil Contractors Federation Tasmania is calling on us all to take time to remember them as part of Road Worker Day of Remembrance, Saturday 9 November 2024.

CEO of the Civil Contractors Federation Tasmania, Andrew Winch said Road Worker Day of Remembrance is a national initiative for which Tasmania is proud to play a part. The day provides an opportunity for all of us to reflect on and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives while working on the Australian road network.

“There is nothing more important than being able to ensure that when you go to work, you also come home safely to your loved ones, but for a number of road workers, this has not been the case,” Mr Winch said.

“That is why we are asking all Tasmanians to take a moment to think of road workers and the vital contribution they make to our lives by ensuring we have the roads and bridges to allow us to do all the things we take for granted.”

Mr Winch said the ‘Your Speed is Our Safety’ campaign, which is an important joint effort between Civil Contractors Federation Tasmania, the State Government, TMAA and the Road Safety Council, is a constant reminder of the importance of taking care when driving near road works.

“However, we want people to use Road Worker Day of Remembrance to remind themselves of the importance of road workers and take the time to think of others, especially when driving throughout our wonderful state.
