Tasmania’s civil construction industry has welcomed the Tasmanian Government’s plan to implement a $20,000 First Home Owner Grant, saying it will support the civil construction sector and add directly to Tasmania’s housing supply.
With the grant targeted at new construction only, every cent will go towards new homes.
“Every new home starts with earthworks, drainage, road connections and water and power services and that’s where our members come in, so anything that encourages building new homes drives work for local civil contractors and their crews,” Civil Contractors Federation Tasmania CEO Andrew Winch said.
“A grant to support new construction is good for housing supply. The more Tasmanians we get building, the more civil work flows to the sector and the faster we build the capacity Tasmania needs.”
Mr Winch said the construction sector was working with the Government through programs like the High Vis Army to make sure Tasmania has the skills and the workers needed to get on with the job and build more housing.
“Initiatives like this are part of the pipeline of big and small projects that will sustain our industry and give businesses the confidence to employ more people, invest in equipment and get ready for the exciting opportunities that are ahead of us.”
